Keep your dog calm & relaxed, without any drowsiness

Our Calming Duo combines daily Scullcap & Valerian Tablets with fast-acting Valerian Compound, giving you everyday calming support alongside an extra top-up when your dog or cat needs it most.

Ideal for fireworks season, loud or unexpected noises, general anxiety, changes in routine and other stressful situations. Both products are formulated to help naturally keep pets calm and focussed, while helping them cope better with stress or fear, without causing drowsiness.

If your dog struggled last year, has experienced stress recently or is sensitive to loud or unfamiliar noises, we recommend planning ahead at least a month before the bangs begin – even if they haven’t shown obvious signs of worry yet. After all, it’s much easier to help keep your dog calm than to try to settle them once they’re already distressed.

How do they help?

The Calming Duo provides two types of natural support:

Scullcap & Valerian Tablets are expertly formulated for everyday use and contain a blend of scullcap, valerian, vervain and mistletoe. Scullcap, mistletoe and valerian are well known for their calming properties and support the natural relaxant pathways within the nervous system, while vervain is commonly used to help maintain calm. Given consistently, the tablets provide ongoing calming support, making them ideal in the run-up to fireworks and other stressful events.

Valerian Compound combines valerian with vervain and mistletoe in a fast-acting liquid formula. Great for unexpected loud bangs, travel or visits to the vet. It works quickly within around 30 minutes, it can be used on its own or as an additional top-up to the tablets when needed.

Together, they provide daily and fast-acting support, helping your pet stay calm, focussed and better able to cope with stress or fear.

When do I need to start giving the products?

For best results, we advise starting Scullcap & Valerian Tablets at least three weeks before fireworks and giving them every day.

Starting early gives you time to introduce calming support alongside simple preparation, such as creating a safe space, using background noise and helping your dog become comfortable with their fireworks routine.

If you haven't started three weeks beforehand, don't worry – your dog can still benefit from the tablets when started closer to the event.

Valerian Compound can then be given as and when needed, including alongside the tablets for an additional calming top-up during particularly stressful periods.

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

When should I start giving my dog calming support?

For best results, we recommend starting Scullcap & Valerian Tablets at least three weeks before fireworks and giving them every day. This helps gradually build up the active calming compounds in your dog's system before the bangs begin.

Valerian Compound can be used on it's own for fast-acting calm or alongside the tablets for a top up, as and when needed. It helps to calm quickly within around 30 minutes, making it ideal to give ahead of expected fireworks or when your dog begins to show signs of becoming unsettled.

You can continue giving the Scullcap & Valerian Tablets daily throughout fireworks season, but Valerian Compound should only be used as and when needed, no more that two doses should be given to your dog within 24-hours.

Even if your dog wasn’t worried by fireworks last year, it’s still worth preparing early. Sometimes just one unexpected experience or another stressful event earlier in the year can make a dog more sensitive to the loud noises and lights during fireworks season. After all, it’s much easier to  keep your dog calm than to try and settle them once they are already hiding, shaking, panting or pacing.

Starting early gives you time to introduce calming support alongside simple preparation, such as creating a safe space and getting them used to background noise before fireworks season begins.

How does the Calming Duo work?

The Calming Duo combines two different types of support to help your dog stay calm before and during stressful situations.

Scullcap & Valerian Tablets are designed for everyday use and contain a carefully selected blend of herbs to support calm, relaxed behaviour without causing drowsiness.

Valerian Compound is fast acting and can help calm within around 30 minutes, with effects lasting for up to two hours, making it useful for one-off stressful situations or as an additional top-up alongside the tablets.

Together, they provide ongoing daily calming support throughout fireworks season, with fast-acting support available when you need it most.

Can I use Scullcap & Valerian Tablets and Valerian Compound together?

Yes. In fact, they are designed to work well together. Use Scullcap & Valerian Tablets every day for ongoing calming support, then use Valerian Compound for one-off stressful situations or as an additional top-up when fireworks begin.

Please note: We do not recommend to giving more than two administrations of the stated amount of Valerian Compound within a 24-hour period

How to use

How much Scullcap & Valerian should I give?

The recommended daily amount is 1 tablet per 5kg of bodyweight. For example, if your dog weighed 18kg, you would give them four tablets a day.

We also recommend splitting the total daily amount between morning and evening, for example two tablets in the morning, two tablets in the evening. The amount can also be doubled when required during particularly stressful situations, such as fireworks. The tablets are small and can be given directly or easily added to food or treats, either whole or crushed.

How much Valerian Compound should I give?

The recommended amount depends on your pet's size:

  • Small dogs and cats: 1.25ml
  • Medium dogs: 2.5ml
  • Large dogs: 5ml
  • Giant breeds: 7.5ml

Valerian Compound can be given directly into their mouth, mixed into food, yoghurt or another liquid treat.

We do not recommend giving more Than two administrations of the stated amount within a 24-hour period.

Will the Calming Duo make my dog drowsy?

No. The active herbs help support the natural calming pathways within the nervous system without causing drowsiness or affecting the muscles.

Fireworks advice

What can I do to help calm my dog during fireworks?

Preparation is key. The aim is to help keep your dog as calm and comfortable as possible before the fireworks start, rather than waiting until they are already visibly distressed.

Create a familiar safe space in advance, close curtains and windows, use background noise such as the television or music, and move walks earlier so your dog is home before it gets dark. It can also help to have treats, toys or other familiar comforts available.

Should I comfort my dog if they’re scared of fireworks?

If your dog comes to you for reassurance, stay close and offer comfort.

Try to remain calm and behave as normally as possible, while allowing your dog to choose where they feel safest. If they prefer to retreat to their bed, crate or another quiet space, let them do so.

Ideally, the focus should be on supporting them before they reach the point of visible distress. Once a dog is already highly anxious, it can be much harder to help them settle, which is why early preparation and calming support can be so useful during fireworks season.
