What is bone broth?
Bones, and the connective tissues associated with them, contain a whole range of important nutrients (and flavour!) locked away, just waiting to be let out! This can be done by simply slow cooking the bones in water, but the addition of a food acid, such as vinegar, helps this process further and ensures that the maximum amount of goodness is extracted. After cooking, the whole mix is strained to remove any remaining solids, and the resultant liquid — packed with nutrients — is the broth.
Did you know? Not all bone broths are made equal, and we’ve taken steps to ensure ours delivers maximum nutrition and flavour:
- All the bones we use are sourced in Norway and guaranteed to be welfare friendly, human grade and non-GMO.
- We use an ultra-long, gentle simmering process with added apple cider vinegar to extract maximum nutrients.
- The beef bone broth is packed from fresh into aseptic cartons, locking in nutrient value and guaranteeing a long shelf life with no need for preservatives.
Sealed Dorwest bone broth cartons can be kept in the cupboard for up to two years and in the fridge for 5 days once opened. You can even freeze individual portions to extend the life of opened cartons.
How does bone broth benefit my pet?
If you’ve ever wondered 'what is bone broth' or 'is bone broth good for dogs', here’s why it’s so beneficial. One of the main nutrients found in bone broth is collagen — an essential building block for many body structures. This, along with protein and essential minerals, makes bone broth excellent nutritional support for joints and connective tissues. Collagen is also vital for healthy skin and coat.
The health benefits of bone broth for dogs go beyond joint care — it’s highly digestible, so all the wonderful nutrients it contains can be easily absorbed by your pet while still being gentle on sensitive tummies. This makes it a brilliant source of quality nourishment and hydration for everyday wellness, or when pets need a bit of extra support.
And there’s a reason the best chefs use bones to make their stocks and sauces — they’re packed with flavour! Beef bone broth for dogs is a great way to make food extra tasty, encouraging fussy appetites when needed.
Can bone broth be given to any dog or cat?
Yes! Any pet can benefit from the nose-to-tail nourishment that bone broth provides. It’s versatile too!
Dorwest bone broths can be given as a liquid at room temperature or chilled from the fridge, where it will thicken up into a jelly due to all that lovely collagen. It can also be frozen into portions to extend the life of opened cartons or used as tasty frozen treats.
