Comfrey herb (Symphytum officinalis) whose country name is Knitbone, was traditionally used to treat these conditions and although this is not commonly available in herbal form for internal use nowadays, the leaves collected from the plant can be useful when added to a poultice and applied to the affected area. In addition, the homoeopathic remedy Symphytum 15C is very useful.
