Are you ready?

Whether it’s 1 month or 1 day before bonfire night, there is always something that can be done to help your pet with their fireworks fear!

Tip: Consider starting firework desensitisation programme for your dog’s anxiety. Gently introduce the sound of fireworks to your pet in the hope of helping them realise that they have nothing to fear.

Tip: Create a safe, snug area for your pet to retreat to if they feel anxious. This will help them if they feel things are getting a bit too much to handle. A pet crate covered with a heavy blanket helps block some of the noise.

Tip: Make sure that your pet’s microchip details are up to date and they are wearing a collar with an ID tag, so that if they escape, they can be quickly and safely returned to you.

Tip: TVs and radios can help provide some background noise. Try to act normal as your pet looks to you for cues as to whether they need to be worried. Stay with your pet to reassure them with your presence.

We understand that all dogs are different and have varying levels of fear which can be hard to know how to deal with.

We are offering a calming plan, bespoke to your pet, written by our experienced product advisors, with advice on how to use our products to help them settle this fireworks season.

Introducing Faye Winter & Bonnie!

We’re so excited to partner with TV personality and existing Dorwest customer Faye Winter for our calming campaign. Faye approached our stand at Crufts this year after seeing results from Elderberry & Nettle Extract. Faye will be preparing her Golden Retriever Bonnie for fireworks with Scullcap & Valerian Tablets.

It was her work within the charity sector that really caught our attention, as Faye has been regularly volunteering for Guide Dogs since 2017; helping

train a total of six dogs who have gone on to help people with visual impairment and blindness.

Now a self-proclaimed Dorwest fan, Faye is stocked up with everything including Scullcap & Valerian Tablets and Valerian Compound that hugely supported Bonnie during her first season in the summer heat. Bonnie has only experienced one fireworks season, so Faye is keen to prepare Bonnie as much as possible, starting Scullcap & Valerian Tablets one month in advance.

“Working with Dorwest is really special. I’m a huge fan of herbal supplements as they’re gentler on the system, and the fact I stumbled upon Dorwest, and now have a full cupboard of supplements, just speaks volumes. The products work wonders and I love the brand’s ethos and values”.

Scullcap & Valerian

These specially selected ingredients work together to help tackle stress, fear and anxiety in your pet:

Valerian – Supports the natural relaxant pathways within the nervous system, without affecting muscle tone.

Mistletoe – Supports the natural calming pathways within the nervous system and helps circulation.
Scullcap – Contains a number of valuable compounds, including those which bind to the GABA receptor and reduce anxiety.

Gentian – Supports the other natural active compounds and helps maintain normal lever function.

Uses: Give daily. For moderate phobias start ten days before, for severe phobias start one month before.
Best used as a course.

Administration Instructions:

Dogs and cats: 1 tablet for every 5kg bodyweight per day, ideally split morning and night.
When the stressful situation is at its worst, this amount can be doubled.

Give the second administration 2 hours before dusk and maintain double amounts for as long as necessary.

Valerian Compound

Help calm your frightened pet quickly and naturally, with our easy-to-give liquid that contains pure extracts of three herbs:

Mistletoe – Supports the natural calming pathways within the nervous system and helps circulation.

Contains pure extracts of three herbs in liquid form, which ensure it acts within just 30 minutes.

Uses: Can be used for unplanned events and especially frightening ‘one-off’ situations, and as an addition to Scullcap & Valerian Tablets as a ‘top-up’

Administration Instructions:

Dogs: By mouth or in food.
Small dogs: 1/4 tsp
Medium dogs: 1/2 tsp
Large dogs: 1 tsp
Giant breeds: 1 – 1 1/2 tsp

Don’t just take our word for it…

“I have a staffy who is extremely anxious and terrified of sudden loud bangs and fireworks. She is overly fussy as well and runs at guests and won’t stop licking due to anxiety. I have literally tried everything to calm her down and nothing has worked, until I tried Scullcap & Valerian Tablets from Dorwest. Seriously, what a life changer they are. She now greets guests and then takes herself off to do other things. Also, fireworks and other loud bangs no longer bother her. It’s a win win from me. Thank you Dorwest!!!!”

“The Scullcap & Valerian Tablets have been a huge help with our dog’s fear of thunder and fireworks. He will now eat them with his food without being crushed which is a time saver for us. We also gave him the Valerian Compound drops as a booster on top of doubling the tablets when we expected an increase in noise. We now keep him on the lower dose of tablets as he is so much better with unexpected noise. Thank you so much.”

“I bought the Scullcap & Valerian Tablets and Valerian Compound for bonfire night as our dog hates loud bangs! I started him on the tablets a month before and can honestly say that this has been his best year with fireworks. After giving him the tablets and the compound, as well as some Classic FM, he fell asleep! Great products, service & delivery.”
