Essential fatty acids are not only beneficial for humans but for dogs, too. By choosing omega 3 & 6 supplements for dogs, you ensure that your dog will receive the necessary essential fatty acids. Omega-rich food supplements are particularly effective when it comes to helping your dog’s dry skin.
What are essential fatty acids and why does my dog need them?
Essential fatty acids (EFAs) such as Omega 3 and Omega 6 are fats that must be supplied in the diet because the body cannot produce them naturally. They are required for normal growth and functioning of the cells, muscles, nerves, organs and the production of prostaglandins (hormone-like substances which are key to many important processes). Deficiencies of EFAs can be linked to a variety of health problems.
Many dog foods now contain Omega 3 & 6 for dogs; however, it is extremely hard to incorporate enough to make a difference to your dog.
How can I make sure my dogs getting enough Omega 3?
To ensure your dog’s getting a balanced diet with a healthy amount of Omega 3 & 6, we recommend incorporating food supplements. Our Omega Star For Dogs is a 100% natural blend of plant oils, rich in essential Omega 3 and 6’s for dogs.
It is both the unique combination and quality of the ingredients and the levels used in Omega Star For Dogs which make its results stand out.
What ingredients are in Dorwest’s Omega Star For Dogs and what are the benefits?

Flaxseed Oil

• Regulate skin renewal
• Keep scurfiness (dog dandruff) under control
• Improve coat condition and quality.
Blackcurrant Seed Oil
This is a highly nutritious oil, containing a potent mix of significant Omega 3 and 6 oils. It includes an Omega 3 oil rarely found in nature, that has unique properties to help soothe sensitive skins. Omega 3 fatty acids for dogs are perfect to help thin, poor coats.
Borage Seed Oil (Starflower)
Regarded as one of the richest sources of Omega 6 GLA, borage seed oil is known to help coat growth and improve skin condition.
Natural Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a well-known anti-oxidant from natural sources. Vitamin E supplements for dogs are perfect for maintaining the skin’s defences and helping to mop-up free radicals.
Acting together, this carefully created blend of nutritious oils effectively moisturises, calms and nourishes the skin moisture barrier. It helps to restore coat shine and supporting quality coat growth. We recommend this omega supplement for dogs if your dog’s skin and coat need that extra care.
What do customers say about Omega Star For Dogs?
Read one of our glowing reviews we’ve received for Omega Star
“We were introduced to The Omega Star product before the launch, in fact we trailed the product on two of our Brown Dobermanns.
Connie 3yrs and Izzy 10yrs old. If any product was going to do as the label says, there is no better coat than that of The Brown Dobermann to put it to the test. We are a show kennel and our dogs must be in impeccable condition to compete. So we took the challenge with some apprehension.
Within two-three weeks we started to notice a difference, their coats were less dry, the depth of colour was more intense with a beautiful lustre and shine.

Since the launch of this great product we have continued to use it daily, added to the food of all of our dogs. It has also benefited our black coated Dobermanns, they too have no dry skin, and the hair loss whilst brushing is considerably less. All of our dogs coats have definitely benefited from the product. Of course a good quality feeding regime is essential to keep your dogs coat in top show condition, he is what he eats, but Omega Star given daily will certainly keep him in “Superstar” condition”. – Jackie Ingram (Jojavik Dobermanns)

Hello, my dog has recently developed severe hair loss on her back and sides nearer to her backend. She has tested negative for thyroid and Cushing. She is a two year old griffon active and seemingly ok. No change in diet or circumstances. She is also being treated for an ear infection. Naturally eras are part of her skin. All this has happened within the space of six weeks. None of my other dogs are affected. Help!
Hi Mary Ann – Poor girl! For hair loss, we would recommend our Kelp Seaweed Tablets. These provide all 37 of the minerals and trace elements that they need and are our highest strength kelp seaweed product for maximum effect. With naturally high levels of iron and iodine for strong coat and quality growth. If she isn't great at taking tablets, these can be crushed with our pill crusher (available online) or we do have a powder form. I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, please do get in touch with our advisors – call 01308897272 or email advice@dorwest.com
What oil would you advice to take for a older dog prone to epilepsy.
Hi Valerie,
Unfortunately we do not have an oil that we recommend for epilepsy, however you may want to look into the Scullcap & Valerian Tablets which can be used alongside conventional medication. Please do discuss with your vet beforehand 😊 Thanks, the Dorwest Team
